Auto glass, especially the windshield, is always getting chipped. Ignoring chips and cracks can lead to a disintegrating windshield when you’re on an interstate. That will jeopardize everyone’s safety and, in the least, complicate your day. It is a good idea to get a windshield repair before it becomes more costly or even dangerous.
Glass On The Move’s mobile windshield repair units can go wherever we are needed at no extra charge to do any auto glass repair or car window replacement. We serve the communities of Oakland, Berkeley, Hayward, Concord and Walnut Creek, California. Our knowledgeable professionals are quick and courteous and we will finish the job on the same day.
Today’s auto glass, commonly called “safety glass,” is made by heating and cooling the glass in a process called tempering. It’s designed to be more flexible and break apart in rounded chunks, rather than razor sharp shards. Sandwiched between the two tempered glass pieces, car windshields have a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sheet. This sheet holds the pieces together like tape when the windshield breaks and causes the distinctive spider-web pattern.
Car windshield chips usually pierce the first layer into the PVB below, and vibrations from everyday driving can cause the chips to crack and grow, subverting the structural integrity of the glass. Although it is far safer than the plate glass it replaced, it’s still the only thing between you and the debris that’s commonly kicked up on the road.
Clear, intact auto windows are essential for safe driving. Dirt, the sun, and reflective glares cause accidents. We also install window tint and can clean most anything off auto glass, even hardened wax. We also know the best methods of cleaning and maintaining window tint, which can get brittle, especially when it’s been exposed to the sun for a few years. Ammonia can damage tint, leather and vinyl, so pay attention to what’s in the window cleaner you use.
