Auto Glass Treatments and Options

Last updated 7 years ago

The modern marketplace provides seemingly endless options for just about everything, and auto glass is no exception.  There are numerous options for treating your auto glass and improving the lifespan of your windshield.  These include tinting, rain repellant, glass polishers, and much more.

Tinting is perhaps the most widely known auto glass treatment available today.  Tinting serves a few basic functions aside from the added privacy.  For instance, the interior temperature of a car with tinting can be up to 60% cooler than one without.  In an accident, the Mylar film used to tint windows can help shattered auto glass hold together, preventing shards from flying all over the interior of the car.  Tinting can also prevent sun damage, both to your car’s interior and to your skin by blocking out harmful UV rays.

Rain repellants are a little less well-known than window tinting, but still provide a few useful benefits.  Rain repellants cause water to bead up and roll off auto glass instead of clinging to it.  While there are many brands on the market, Rain-X and Aquapel are two of the best.  Rain-X is a silicone-based product.  Aquapel is a newer product that is not silicone-based.  Because it creates a chemical bond to your windshield, Aquapel is reported to last much longer than silicone-based products.  However, Aquapel is also more expensive, so that must be taken into consideration as well.

Glass polishers work similarly to car polish.  They contain abrasives which fix irregularities in the glass, remove water spots, mineral deposits and etching.  Two examples of glass polishers are DP High Performance Glass Restorer and Diamondite Spray Clay.  DP’s glass restorer is a thick cream that gently lifts out dirt and water spots from glass.  Diamondite Spray Clay uses clay foam to deep clean glass without damaging it.

These are just a few of the many options available for treating your auto glass.  Taking extra care of your glass will allow you to avoid a costly windshield repair.  At Auto Glass on the Move in Oakland, CA, we have the best auto glass products for your foreign or domestic vehicles.
